Surfer Blood Sign to Warner Bros.

I'm not sure how big a deal it is for a band to sign to a major record label in 2010 (what's a record label?), but Surfer Blood have done just that, and signed to Warner Bros.

Surfer Blood released one of my favorite debut records this year.  It's called Astro Coast.  Listen to it if you haven't.  Catchy, fun, rockin' music.

Surfer Blood will release an EP next year on their current indie label Kanine before releasing their second LP / 'major label debut'.  Definitely excited to hear more music from them, and I love a well made EP.

It's probably good for a band like Surfer Blood to get some support and funding from a major label.  Meanwhile, well-established acts like Radiohead, Pearl Jam and Weezer are doing just the opposite, and ditching their major record labels.  Weezer's new record Hurley was just released on an indie label.  I think Radiohead and Pearl Jam are just releasing their records themselves at this point.
